Introducing Cocktails on the Fly: a New Video Guide to Cutting Edge Mixology
Bartender to the Stars and Flighty Hostess Alberta Straub Makes Online Debut with New Short Form, Episodic Show
AUSTIN, Texas--(EON:Enhanced Online News)--For anyone who has ever wondered how to make a White Russian salute, a Rose Kennedy take notice, or a Fuzzy Navel respect you in the morning, look no further. Cocktails on the Fly (www.cocktailsonthefly.tv) debuts as a virtual salon, catering to viewers interested in bringing the same level of creativity to their cocktails as they do to their cooking.
The show gives viewers the opportunity to learn at the feet of the engaging, quirky hostess Alberta Straub, who literally lives in the world of mixed drinks. Straub has made a name for herself, nationwide, as a libations innovator, mixing cocktails in San Francisco watering holes for years, using only fresh produce and homemade ingredients.
Now the self-monikered, “Miss Flighty” is bringing her unique and highly-regarded repertoire to the masses for the first time, by way of Cocktails on the Fly. Presented in short, 3-10 minute segments, the show has something for everyone – from drink enthusiasts to aperitif aficionados.
“This program is a showcase for Alberta’s effervescent personality and remarkable skills as she provides quick lessons on how to make sexy and wildly exotic mixed drinks. Viewers will learn about classic cocktails, her variations on them, and her special concoctions, from ‘Ginger-Cardamom Sugar’ to specially infused vodkas for Bloody Marys,” said producer Chris Marler.
In addition to her natural exuberance, Alberta brings a unique sense of style to the program, based on an enduring fascination with 1960s jet-age culture. She also comes equipped with a classic bartender’s trove of wild stories and anecdotes.
Shot in a Bay Area kitchen, episodes break down into three categories: 1) “Alberta’s Essentials” – short tips on everything from bartending fundamentals to step-by-step instructions on how to prepare some of Straub’s special ingredients; 2) “Alberta’s Cocktails” – longer segments on the preparation of classic cocktails including inventive variations on them; and 3) pre-produced news segments in which Alberta takes to the field, doing anything from shopping for produce at local farmers’ markets to visiting her favorite distilleries.
