ViaSat Inc. Awarded LEED® Green Building Certification

Achieves Gold rating for 67,000 square foot operations and manufacturing facility

CARLSBAD, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--ViaSat Inc. (Nasdaq: VSAT) has been awarded the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for its recent Building 6 project. LEED is the leading USGBC rating system for designing and constructing the world’s greenest, most energy efficient, and high performing buildings.

“This is the first LEED Gold Certified building in Carlsbad, which underscores our commitment to minimizing our environmental impact, while enhancing the health and well-being of our community and employees," said Bob Rota, vice president, Facilities and Security at ViaSat.

The ViaSat Building 6 project redeveloped a 67,240 square foot building into a corporate operations and manufacturing building. The project used the Commercial Interiors rating system, accumulating 32 points to be awarded the Gold certification. The finished product consists of 30% office, 30% shipping/receiving and warehouse, and 40% manufacturing. The company is now pursuing the same LEED Gold certification for its new Building 7 office space.

The ViaSat operations building is owned by First Industrial Realty Trust. Designed by Ferguson, Pape, Baldwin Architects in conjunction with McParlane & Associates (mechanical & plumbing design), Michael Wall Electric, MW Pelz (landscaping), and Reno Contracting, the project achieved LEED certification to save resources while also maintaining excellent economics.

LEED certification of ViaSat Building 6 was based on a number of green design and construction features that positively impact the project itself and the broader community:

• Energy conservation through energy-efficient lighting and mechanical systems, reflective roofing material, and extensive use of Energy Star rated equipment
• Improved indoor quality through low emitting materials and introducing natural light throughout
• Water reducing low-flow fixtures and reclaimed water for landscaping
• Conserving natural resources with recycled construction materials, reusing significant amounts of manufacturing equipment, and recycling waste generated by the building operations
• Promoting alternative transportation with company-provided bicycles for travel between buildings, preferred carpool and Fuel Efficient Vehicle parking, and easy access to public transportation.
