(NYSE: AMD) today released the first video and images demonstrating Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Server® 2008 R2 Hyper-V performing live migration from a Quad-Core AMD OpteronTM “Barcelona” processor to a 45nm Quad-Core AMD Opteron “Shanghai” processor.
- Together, virtualization technologies from Microsoft and AMD create highly efficient solutions that enable optimal performance within the data center. Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V utilizes the AMD Opteron processor’s hardware-assisted virtualization technology (AMD-V™) to help minimize the overhead normally associated with virtualization solutions while leveraging AMD’s advanced power management capabilities to help conserve power and cut operating costs through workload consolidation.
