DALLAS--()--Credit Solutions CEO Doug Van Arsdale has been chosen to chair the Business Advisory Board for the Children’s Eye Foundation (CEF), whose mission is eliminating preventable blindness in children through education, community outreach and research.
“Best Customer Services Department in Financial Services”
As the chair of the national foundation’s Business Advisory Board, Van Arsdale will lend his business expertise to ensure the long-term viability and success of the organization and its programs, and help recruit other business professionals to the Business Advisory Board.
“Research suggests that 5 percent, or 1 in 20, of preschool-aged U.S. children suffers from a vision disorder that could eventually result in permanent vision impairment,” Van Arsdale said. “That’s about one child in every U.S. classroom who could benefit from early detection.”
Currently only about one third of U.S. children receive a vision screening before age six. The CEF is trying to change that. Headquartered in Grapevine, TX, the Foundation is working to increase preschool screening to 50 percent by 2010 – a significant step toward its ultimate goal of eliminating preventable blindness in children.
“Being all about achieving results, Doug is the ideal person to chair the Children’s Eye Foundation Business Advisory Board,” said CEF Executive Director Thomas Rogers.
One of the CEF’s largest programs, See By Three™, has completed its first phase, screening almost 10,000 children in West Virginia and Florida, and training West Virginia and Florida pediatricians on appropriate vision screening techniques. The lessons-learned from the program’s first phase will inform its second and third phases – educating physicians and parents about the importance of early detection and treatment of eye disorders in children.
