GREEN BAY, Wis.--()--Kaplan Virtual Education and the Howard-Suamico School District today announced that they have partnered to form Bay Port iAcademy, which will provide part- and full-time online school options for middle and high school students throughout Wisconsin. The Bay Port iAcademy is part of a public school district so eligible students may attend tuition free. Enrollment for the 2010-2011 school year will be open from Feb. 1 through 19.
“This partnership brings an assortment of educational options, including AP, honors and elective courses, to the students of the Green Bay region and throughout Wisconsin”
“This partnership brings an assortment of educational options, including AP, honors and elective courses, to the students of the Green Bay region and throughout Wisconsin,” said Charles Thornburgh, president of Kaplan Virtual Education. “Working in tandem with the district, we will offer access to online classes that feature an engaging curriculum and individualized instruction.”
The Bayport iAcademy will provide a high-quality curriculum with the flexibility of an online platform to meet the needs of local students, particularly those who are homebound, homeschooled or seeking advanced courses not offered at their traditional school. It will also be an option for individuals who have dropped out and are looking to return to school. It will give middle and high school students throughout the state the ability to study from virtually anywhere at any time via the Internet.
All of the school’s courses meet Wisconsin’s curriculum standards and integrate audio, video, and other innovative teaching tools. Instruction is led by certified teachers who will use virtual white boards—the equivalent of a real-time online blackboard—to demonstrate course work. The teachers will also be available to answer student questions via instant message, email and telephone.
“This collaboration with Kaplan Virtual Education is a way to expand our course offerings and help students learn in an innovative and flexible way,” said Damian LaCroix, superintendent of the Howard-Suamico School District. “We’re excited to provide students with a new and personalized online education option.”
The Howard-Suamico School District has a strong history of academic achievement. Careful planning has ensured that the Bay Port iAcademy builds on the level of excellence that community members have come to expect.
