LONDON--()--With snow and ice continuing to cause havoc on Britain's roads, fleet insurance brokers Flint Insurance are advising their clients to take extra precautions this winter to deal with hazardous conditions.
“The findings of this study show that most motorists are dangerously under prepared for the winter weather and it is the responsibility of fleet bosses to educate their staff on the correct course of action to take before each journey.”
This comes in the wake of research from Continental Tyres which reveals that one in three drivers will drive this winter, without being able to see clearly through their windscreen. The survey found that most motorists are in too much of a rush to fully defrost their windows and mirrors before setting off on journeys. Over 50% of those questioned admitted to doing so, and the worst offenders are men.
The research also highlights an alarming lack of basic vehicle checks, with seven out of ten people admitting to never checking tyre tread depth and four out of ten failing to check windscreen washer liquid levels. Checks on basic functions such as wipers and lights are also lacking from most people's routines. These are worrying statistics, particularly for companies who operate large fleets of vehicles, as a spokesperson for Flint Insurance comments:
“The findings of this study show that most motorists are dangerously under prepared for the winter weather and it is the responsibility of fleet bosses to educate their staff on the correct course of action to take before each journey.”

“The bad weather conditions we are currently experiencing are bad enough for the average motorist to deal with, but for fleets which operate dozens of vehicles, the risks taken are magnified significantly. For this reason, it is vital that before setting off on any journey, drivers have carried out the necessary vehicle checks and fully defrosted all of their vehicle's windows and mirrors.”
