DCG West Ranks No. 17 On EPA’S Top 20 Printers List of Green Power Purchasers

SEATTLE--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--DCG West announced today that for the first time it appears on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Top 20 Printers List of the largest green power purchasers. DCG West’s print facility, McCallum Print Group is purchasing nearly 2.6 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 100 percent of the organization's purchased electricity use. McCallum Print Group is buying a utility green power product from Seattle City Light and Renewable Choice Energy. This purchase demonstrates a proactive choice and a leading commitment to switch away from traditional sources of electricity generation and support cleaner renewable energy alternatives.

Earlier this week, the EPA updated each of its National Top Partner lists, highlighting some of America's largest green power purchasers. DCG West currently ranks No. 17 on EPA’s Top 20 Printers List. Each list highlights EPA Green Power Partners that have completed the largest annual voluntary purchases through January 5, 2010. This purchase also qualifies DCG West for EPA’s Green Power Leadership Club, a distinction given to organizations that have significantly exceeded EPA’s minimum purchase requirements. Green Power Leadership Club members must purchase ten times the partnership’s minimum requirement organization-wide.

Green power is electricity that is generated from environmentally preferable renewable resources, such as wind, solar, geothermal, biogas, biomass and low-impact hydro. These resources generate electricity with a net zero increase in carbon dioxide emissions, while offering a superior environmental profile compared to traditional power generation sources. Green power purchases also support the development of new renewable energy generation sources nationwide.

According to the U.S. EPA, DCG West's green power purchase of nearly 2.6 million kWh is equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions of nearly 400 passenger vehicles per year, or is the equivalent amount of electricity needed to power more than 200 average American homes annually.

In addition to the Green Power Partnership, DCG West participates in the FSC Chain of Custody Certification program, the Seattle City Light Green Up program, the Renewable Choice Energy program, and has an EviroStar five star rating.
