REDLANDS, Calif.--()--Students who enroll in Advanced Placement classes in high school can save thousands of dollars in college tuition and boost their eligibility for merit-based financial aid as well.
The University of Redlands advises high school students to consider Advanced Placement or AP classes in order to start racking up college credits. Students who take AP classes are also more likely to qualify for financial assistance based on their academic performance in high school.
AP courses provide college credit to high school students who take the class and pass an end-of-semester exam. Considered more rigorous than regular high school classes, AP courses require a little more work and a small testing fee for the exam, but the rewards can really pay off.
A student who passes just four AP courses can potentially eliminate a whole semester’s worth of college tuition and living expenses, which, at a top private college could mean saving $10,000 or more.
Getting high scores on AP tests can also increase a student’s chances of receiving merit or non-need-based financial aid from many colleges.
