REDLANDS, Calif.--()--College-bound students and their parents should guard themselves against the hype and scams associated with illegitimate scholarship offers.
The University of Redlands urges caution when approached by offers of scholarships or scholarship searches for a price. Scholarships are free, and no one should ever have to pay to find, apply for or receive a grant or scholarship.
Information on scholarships is available at the University of Redlands Office of Financial Aid, which is constantly reviewing information from private organizations to uncover opportunities for its continuing or incoming students. Information can also be obtained at any high school counseling office, or on the Internet at:
Parents and students are advised to do their own research before spending any money on high-pressure seminars, companies that promise scholarships for a fee, or other even more unscrupulous types that try to get people to send in money by announcing that a student is a finalist in a scholarship contest.
