CHILLICOTHE, Ohio--()--Petland will celebrate Adopt-A-Pet Day May 15 at Petland stores around the country. As part of the festivities, stores will be raising money, collecting items for donation and some will be hosting shelters with adoptable pets.
“The news is filled with stories of shelters who are struggling and we want to help.”
Petland’s Adopt-A-Pet program has helped place more than 300,000 pets into loving homes. But Petland wants that number to be bigger. Many Petland stores have successful programs already in place, but Petland wants to raise the bar and reach its goal of half a million animals placed by 2015. The program continues to grow and is actively seeking shelters and rescue groups to partner with local Petland stores.
Mike Isaac and Adam Stachowiak of Petland Wheaton, Illinois recently converted their Petland store to only offer Adopt-A-Pet pets by working with a local shelter.
“Over the past few months we have gone from 2-3 dogs a month to now finding homes for over 60+ dogs and cats a month through our Adopt-A-Pet program. Our entire kennel is now “Adopt A Pet” and we work with ALOHA Rescue to keep it full at all times. To date we have adopted out over 260 cats and dogs,” said Stachowiak.
As part of its business model, Petland stores are required to participate in the Adopt-A-Pet program. The program is flexible in that stores can take in shelter animals, do fundraising events for shelters or post information about adoptable animals in the store.
“We want to do more,” said Lacey Clever, national Adopt-A-Pet coordinator. “The news is filled with stories of shelters who are struggling and we want to help.”
“All politics aside, Petland stores care about the pets in their communities and simply want to do the right thing in our communities and give homeless pets a second chance,” said Elizabeth Kunzelman, Director of Communication, “We remain committed to being part of the solution.”
If shelters or rescue groups are interested in receiving assistance from a Petland store in their area, please contact our national Adopt-A-Pet coordinator, Lacey Clever, at 800-221-5935 and she will work with the shelter and the local store to develop the program.
