Intertape Expands Relationship with Transplace to Improve Shipments to Mexico

Top Packaging Company Utilizes Leading 3PL’s Expertise and Strategic Partnerships to Improve Cross-Border Operations, Strengthen Position in Mexico

DALLAS--()--Intertape Polymer Group, a leader in the packaging industry, announced that it has strengthened operations in Mexico by expanding its relationship with third party logistics provider Transplace to establish a new distribution center in Monterrey. Transplace will serve as Intertape’s warehousing partner to manage shipments from the distribution center, allowing the company to gain greater visibility into and control of its supply chain.

“Serving as Intertape’s warehousing partner provides Transplace with the ability to deliver comprehensive transportation management services from U.S. manufacturing facilities all the way to the final destination within Mexico.”

“Until now, Intertape would sell to customers in Mexico, and the customers were responsible for importing the product into Mexico, in addition to incurring importation costs. This required large customers who were sophisticated and balanced enough to handle the complex contracts, inhibiting our ability to reach small to midsize businesses that lacked the size and scope to manage the transactions,” said Sheldon Ellis, vice president, Supply Chain at Intertape. “Working with Transplace allowed us to establish a distribution center on the other side of the border, giving Intertape greater control of our shipments.”

A Transplace partner for domestic transportation management since 2007, Intertape leveraged the 3PL’s presence and relationships in Mexico to find a warehouse that would meet the company’s specific location and distribution needs. Utilizing an automated system, Transplace is fully connected to Intertape’s business, allowing them to receive and process all orders. This gives Intertape the ability to better meet the needs of its customers by offering just-in-time delivery, reducing their inventories and improving delivery times.

“Building off the successful relationship that Intertape and Transplace already have on the U.S. side, we were able to quickly and efficiently establish operations to and from the distribution center in Monterrey,” said Troy Ryley, managing director for Transplace Mexico. “Serving as Intertape’s warehousing partner provides Transplace with the ability to deliver comprehensive transportation management services from U.S. manufacturing facilities all the way to the final destination within Mexico.”

With the amount of product flowing through Intertape’s new distribution center, Transplace can now take advantage of consolidation opportunities by converting less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments into full loads and still deliver products as quickly as next day.

Added Ellis, “With the new distribution center, we are now able to deliver our product directly into Mexico, which has enabled us to create a more efficient supply chain and broaden our client base to include small to midsize companies. This helps us significantly grow our business in Mexico and achieve our organizational goals.”
