BOSTON--()--goby.com (pronounced GO-be), the activity search engine that helps people find things to do with their free time, today announced it has closed a $2.5 million extension of its Series A funding from investors including Flybridge Capital Partners and Kepha Partners. With this extension of funding, goby has now raised a total of $7.5 million.
“Brands are looking for ways to connect to consumers with strong intent in a location-based manner, and goby provides a perfect platform for connecting to targeted audiences as they’re making their decisions”
“We founded goby with the goal of helping people find engaging, distinctive activities, events and things to do,” said Mark Watkins, CEO and co-founder of goby. “This additional funding will help us integrate and advance goby.com and our portfolio of mobile apps, combining the web and mobile experience and enabling local discovery of your next adventure.”
In 2010, goby has grown its audience from 50,000 visitors in January to more than 500,000 in July, a tenfold increase in just six months. The company launched mobile applications for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android earlier this year and has built a growing base of half a million mobile users finding great things to do on the go. Future developments will include social recommendations that span the divide between the web and mobile experience, tapping user’s social network to get feedback and recommendations.
In addition to expanding mobile application development and continuing to enhance and improve the user experience online, goby will use a portion of the funding to expand sales and marketing efforts. “Brands are looking for ways to connect to consumers with strong intent in a location-based manner, and goby provides a perfect platform for connecting to targeted audiences as they’re making their decisions,” said Watkins.
