Frost & Sullivan Recognizes Stoke’s Mobile Data Offload with 2010 North American New Product Innovation of the Year Award

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--()--Mobile broadband gateway developer Stoke, Inc. announced that the Stoke Mobile Data Offload (MDO) has earned Frost & Sullivan’s North American New Product Innovation of the Year Award. Frost & Sullivan recognized the MDO for its design to help mobile network operators address their immediate economic, capacity and subscriber satisfaction challenges.

“It is an honor to be recognized by Frost & Sullivan for our product innovation with Stoke Mobile Data Offload. This recognition further validates the need for a competitive offload solution for mobile network operators in order to maintain market share and growth, while trying to manage increased subscriber expectations.”

With the proliferation of flat-rate data plans, mobile applications and devices, such as smartphones, iPhones, 3G-enabled laptops and netbooks, high-data traffic loads on mobile networks are drastically impacted. Today’s networks were designed for the delivery of small data sets designed for a 15-line feature phone display – a far cry from HD video content on mobile devices that we see today. As a result, operator networks become overwhelmed, forcing unplanned capacity expansion and resulting in a compromised end-user experience. With MDO, mobile network operators can sustain far greater mobile data traffic volumes with their current core data network investments and end-user experiences can be improved.

MDO selectively diverts traffic streams off of the legacy mobile network—bypassing the data core infrastructure—routing it directly to the Internet. MDO performs this function without impacting untargeted traffic flows, interfering with subscriber mobility, or requiring any configuration changes to the mobile network elements. The result is a dramatic reduction in traffic loads for three costly network elements – the SGSN, GGSN and service grooming servers. MDO offers savings of tens of millions of dollars of reduced network core capacity expansion and operational costs. When compared to alternative strategies, MDO has been shown to reduce CAPEX by 42 percent and OPEX by 90 percent.

Zeff Ibrahim, Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan, said, “As data traffic loads continue to grow, mobile network operators are continuously pressured to optimize the network to deliver higher quality mobile broadband services. The Stoke Mobile Data Offload is a highly efficient solution that allows operators to focus on increasing data capacity in the mobile core and improve network performance.”

Stoke CEO Vikash Varma said, “It is an honor to be recognized by Frost & Sullivan for our product innovation with Stoke Mobile Data Offload. This recognition further validates the need for a competitive offload solution for mobile network operators in order to maintain market share and growth, while trying to manage increased subscriber expectations.”
