LOS ANGELES--()--The Captains, an original, feature length documentary produced, directed and written by William Shatner has been completed and is now set for its US premiere on EPIX, the premium entertainment channel, video on demand and online service.
“It’s a very personal journey for all of the Captains, including Bill”
Shatner collaborated on the film with Executive Producer David Zappone, President/Producer of 455 Films, headquartered at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California and Forti Layne Entertainment’s Kevin Layne, an award winning, industry veteran. The music supervisor on The Captains was none other than Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Captain Sisko himself, Avery Brooks. Canadian composer Andy Milne scored the film.
Shot on location in Toronto, London, New York, Princeton and Los Angeles, The Captains offers an in-depth look at the actors who portrayed Starfleet Captains in the iconic Star Trek franchise. The centerpiece of the hour and a half documentary are intimate interviews conducted by Shatner, with revealing new insights from this group of accomplished actors, including Sir Patrick Stewart, Kate Mulgrew, Scott Bakula, Avery Brooks, Chris Pine and Shatner himself, as well as Oscar nominated actor Christopher Plummer.
Release plans for The Captains include the EPIX network, Canadian television and DVD release as well as a live premiere event at Comic Con 2011 in San Diego and outdoor screenings in New York and Los Angeles, all attended by Shatner.
“It’s a very personal journey for all of the Captains, including Bill,” said Layne. “It was wonderful being able to capture so many intimate moments between them.” The Captains provides an in-depth look into Shatner’s life, and he explores similar themes with the other Captains. “Any time you have the opportunity to work with a talent like Bill, it’s an honor,” added Zappone.
