SnagFilms Acquires Digital and VOD Distribution Rights To Award-Winning Documentary “Dragonslayer”

Film will be available via VOD, digital and mobile platforms

WASHINGTON--()--Today, SnagFilms announced that it has acquired domestic VOD and digital rights to the 2011 festival award winner Dragonslayer from director Tristan Patterson and executive producer Christine Vachon. The deal was negotiated by Andrew Mer, VP, Content Partnerships for SnagFilms and David Koh and Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment on behalf of the producer and filmmaker. The film was produced by John Baker. Dragonslayer won Best Documentary Feature and Best Cinematography at the 2011 South By Southwest Film Festival, as well as Best International Feature at Hot Docs 2011.

“We are thrilled by the opportunity to partner with SnagFilms and reach new audiences”

Dragonslayer will launch on VOD on Comcast Xfinity, FiOS and SnagFilms other multi-channel partners, and via SnagFilms electronic-sell-through partners, including iTunes and Amazon, following its 2011 nationwide theatrical release from Drag City Film Distribution. Ultimately the film will be available, on demand and for free, on SnagFilms.com, on the SnagFilms app for iPad and connected TV platforms Roku and Boxee, and on its extensive digital network of affiliate sites and web pages.

Dragonslayer documents the transgressions of a lost skate punk falling in love in the stagnant suburbs of Fullerton, California in the aftermath of America's economic collapse. Taking the viewer through a golden SoCal haze of broken homes, abandoned swimming pools and stray glimpses of unusual beauty, Dragonslayer captures the life and times of Josh “Skreech” Sandoval, a local skate legend and new father, as his endless summer finally collides with the future.

“We look forward to featuring this highly-compelling, award-winning documentary on all of our video on demand, digital and mobile platforms,” said SnagFilms CEO Rick Allen. “Christine Vachon is one of the most significant forces in independent film, and Tristan has created a captivating and deeply personal portrait, paired with an incredible soundtrack. Dragonslayer will take the SnagFilms audience – wherever they are on our digital network -- on a wild and unique ride.”

“We are thrilled by the opportunity to partner with SnagFilms and reach new audiences,” said director Tristan Patterson. “I love the idea that the movie is going to become easily accessible to everyone I really made it for, however they want to watch it.”

Set to the alternately roaring and dreamy soundtrack of bands from the indie labels Mexican Summer and Kemado Records—including Best Coast, Bipolar Bear, Children, Dungen, Eddy Current and the Suppression Ring, Golden Triangle, Jacuzzi Boys, Little Girls, Real Estate, The Soft Pack, Saviours, as well as DEATH and Thee Oh Sees — Dragonslayer is a punk rock manifesto to youth, love and learning to survive.

Dragonslayer will have its UK Premiere at the prestigious BFI London Film Festival this October before opening theatrically in New York City on November 4, 2011. The film will be released in Canada by filmswelike.
