Huron Life Sciences Announces Webinar on the New DHHS Financial Conflict of Interest Rules in Research

Who:	Huron Consulting Group today announced a Huron Life Sciences webinar on the Department of Health and Human Services’ (DHHS) new financial conflict of interest (FCOI) rules and the implications for research institutions.
What:	DHHS’ updated FCOI rules promote objectivity in research and make compliance more straightforward and structured. The rules, which must be implemented by August 24, 2012, could have a significant impact on research institutions. These institutions must now create a plan to update their policies and processes accordingly, and may need to use electronic (e-COI) management systems to optimize their ability to comply with the new regulations.
	The Huron Life Sciences webinar will help research organizations take action to comply with the major changes in the new FCOI rules, including:
	• A new definition of “investigator” which extends the requirement for disclosure of significant outside interests to members of the research team who traditionally are not considered to be investigators.
	• A new requirement for the disclosure of all significant financial interests related to the totality of an individual’s “institutional responsibilities.”
	• More stringent requirements for disclosure and FCOI management by sub-awardees, contractors and consultants.
	• Requiring substantial information related to all identified FCOIs to be posted on an institution’s Web site, or provided within 5 business days in response to inquiries.
	• Requiring new and continuous training for investigators.
