NASHVILLE, Tenn.--()--Mayor Karl Dean has launched a city-wide initiative aimed at getting Nashvillians excited about their health. The upcoming Mayor’s Field Day at LP Field will be a fun and engaging opportunity for Nashville to get active together. The event will engage families of diverse fitness levels in a relaxed, tournament-type field day designed around learning new, fun, kid-friendly ways to be active.
“The goal is to introduce various forms of exercise and encourage participants to find what they enjoy. When you enjoy it, you stick with it”
Local startup, ACTIVEBUYS, has joined forces with the City to help with this effort by engaging participants in an interactive experience with local fitness experts infusing fun into health. The Mayor’s Field Day at LP Field will include a variety of activities, including:
- On-field games such as a classic sack race, water relay and fun team-movement activities
- A fitness fair
- Live entertainment
- An obstacle course presented by Adventureworks
- The ACTIVEBUYS Exercise Station showcasing local merchants and their respective forms of exercise
The ACTIVEBUYS Exercise Station will be comprised of a stage and complete sound system that will host eight local businesses leading the crowd in group exercise performances. From kickboxing to Zumba, ACTIVEBUYS will showcase a variety of fitness programs to introduce event goers to some of the fitness offerings available around town. “We have been working aggressively on improving the health of our residents for a while now with fitness challenges, offering healthier food choices in our schools and farmers’ markets and promoting places to exercise, like our parks and greenways,” Mayor Karl Dean said. “A community Field Day continues that commitment and is a great way to show our citizens, and particularly our young people, that the key to good health is being physically active, and you can do that in a lot of fun ways.”
“The goal is to introduce various forms of exercise and encourage participants to find what they enjoy. When you enjoy it, you stick with it,” says Michael Gonzales, co-founder of ACTIVEBUYS. ACTIVEBUYS is planning for a day full of smiles, laughter and “Ah-Ha!” moments as individuals realize being healthy doesn’t mean you have to eat lettuce and run on a treadmill. “Finding something you enjoy and actually want to do is half the battle,” Gonzales says. “That’s when it becomes addictive, satisfying and fun.”
Mayor’s Field Day is a partnership with the Tennessee Titans on May 5 starting at 9:00am. For more information, visit www.mayorsfieldday.com.
