ALEXANDRIA, Va.--()--Veterans Green Jobs, a national nonprofit organization that puts veterans to work in the green economic sector, and CALIBRE Systems, Inc. (CALIBRE) a Virginia-based management and technology services company, have partnered to advance training and employment opportunities for military veterans nationwide.
“As an Equal Opportunity employer, CALIBRE is dedicated to providing employment opportunities to our Nation’s veterans”
With this arrangement, CALIBRE has committed to provide timely information on employment opportunities within its company to Veterans Green Jobs, which the nonprofit will promote among military veterans through its networks and at events through its Veterans Green Force program. Veterans Green Force matches military veterans’ skills and experience with employment opportunities in such job sectors as renewable and clean energy, energy efficiency, and outdoor conservation.
The Veterans Green Force program will match interested and qualified veterans to compete for open positions at CALIBRE, which serves customers in the energy and environmental management sectors.
“Partnerships with companies such as CALIBRE, which has its own goals to employ military veterans, are key to the success of Veterans Green Force,” said John Toth, senior director of Veteran Programs for Veterans Green Jobs. “We’re excited for the opportunity to team up with CALIBRE and provide more job opportunities to veterans seeking meaningful career paths and a successful transition to the civilian workforce.”
“Currently, 55 percent of CALIBRE’s 691 active employees have had military experience. CALIBRE is proud to offer these opportunities and to be an employer of choice for our veterans,” said Joe Martore, CALIBRE President & CEO.
“As an Equal Opportunity employer, CALIBRE is dedicated to providing employment opportunities to our Nation’s veterans,” states Jack Mutarelli, CALIBRE Executive Vice President & Chief Operations Officer. “Our partnership with Veterans Green Jobs allows us to connect with veterans of all military eras.”
Veterans Green Force was launched in February 2012 as an initiative of Veterans Green Jobs. With founding sponsorships from Walmart and the Call of Duty Endowment, the program has a goal of placing 300 veterans in green sector jobs by mid-2013. It will achieve this by partnering with private companies, government entities, higher education institutions, training organizations, and other nonprofits that want to train or hire military veterans.
Employers that hire unemployed military veterans benefit from two tax credits that were included in the American Jobs Act and signed into law by President Obama in 2011: the Returning Heroes Tax Credit and the Wounded Warrior Tax Credit.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics in June 2012, of those veterans who have served in the military since 2001, 12.7 percent were unemployed in May, and the youngest (18-24 years of age) are unemployed at a rate of 23.5 percent.
