Aerospike Acquires AlchemyDB NewSQL Database to Build on Predictable Speed and Web-Scale Data Management of Aerospike Real-Time NoSQL Database

Alchemy team led by Russell Sullivan joins Aerospike to integrate AlchemyDB’s index, document store, graph database, and SQL functionality into the Aerospike database

To expand support for these enterprises—many in production within some of the industry’s most data-intensive environments—Aerospike is announcing that it has acquired Alchemy Database (AlchemyDB).

AlchemyDB was the first NewSQL database to integrate relational database management system (RDBMS), document store, and graph database capabilities on top of the Redis open-source key-value store. Aerospike is the only real-time NoSQL database and key-value store that provides predictable ultra-fast performance and uninterrupted operations while scaling transparently to manage billions of objects and terabytes of data. Under terms of the agreement, the AlchemyDB team, led by founder Russell Sullivan, joins Aerospike and is spearheading development efforts to selectively integrate key capabilities of AlchemyDB into Aerospike. The integrated functions will be rolled out over the coming year.

In his role as an Aerospike principal engineer, Russell Sullivan is leading the integration of AlchemyDB capabilities into the Aerospike real-time NoSQL database and further enhancing its performance. An expert in high-performance and distributed systems, he was the founder and developer of AlchemyDB, an ultra high velocity open source database and the first database to combine SQL, NoSQL key-value store, document store, and GraphDB. Prior to founding AlchemyDB, Russell was a principal engineer of the Makara platform-as-a-service (PaaS), which was acquired by RedHat.
