Ozmo and Haier to Introduce Wi-Fi Direct Peripherals for 2013 Smart TVs

Haier and Ozmo Devices partner on Wi-Fi Direct ecosystem for Smart TVs based on Ozmo’s ultra-low power Wi-Fi technology

PALO ALTO, Calif.--()--Ozmo Devices, the leader in ultra-low power Wi-Fi Personal Area Networks (Wi-Fi PAN), today announced that global TV innovator Haier Group will develop Ozmo-based Wi-Fi direct peripherals for its new line of Smart TVs. The wireless Wi-Fi accessories for Haier’s 2013 Smart TV models will likely include a remote control, a microphone, and a variety of other innovative human interface products.

“Being selected by the Smart TV group of a world renowned brand is further evidence that Ozmo’s Wi-Fi Direct technology is a smart choice for the development of wireless peripheral products.”

“Ozmo technology was selected for its market-leading low power and latency Wi-Fi Direct offerings,” said Peter Mortenson, marketing director at Haier. “The Ozmo solution will allow our next generation of Smart TVs to leverage the existing internal Wi-Fi radio for use by new peripherals like remote controls, game controllers, voice and audio headsets and other wireless devices that will improve the interaction between the device, the TV screen and its content.”

Ozmo’s Wi-Fi Direct technology, unlike other RF technologies, utilizes the Wi-Fi adapter already included in the TV, set-top box, Blu-Ray, PC or mobile device, eliminating the need to add another RF module to the platform. This allows the platform developer to avoid costly hardware and software complications associated with Bluetooth, RF4CE, or other proprietary short-range RF technologies. Wi-Fi PAN from Ozmo allows this without compromising cost, latency, battery life or quality of the consumer experience.

Wi-Fi Direct is the software-based extension of standard Wi-Fi, which allows Wi-Fi devices to communicate directly without the need for an access point or router. The Wi-Fi adapter in the TV can simultaneously provide an Internet connection and also multiple Wi-Fi Direct connections to peripherals such as a TV remote or microphone.

For Smart TV developers, Wi-Fi technology, especially as it is embodied in the OZMO2000 chip, is the ideal solution for any short-range peripheral due to its support of a ubiquitous standard and delivery of extremely high bit-rates.

“The new applications for Wi-Fi connected Smart TVs are making it imperative for interactive set-top box and TV manufacturers to adopt high-performance technologies like Wi-Fi PAN,” said Bill McLean, CEO of Ozmo Devices. “Being selected by the Smart TV group of a world renowned brand is further evidence that Ozmo’s Wi-Fi Direct technology is a smart choice for the development of wireless peripheral products.”
