LOS ANGELES--()--Some dates require a friend in tow for support. The new WIGS series Vanessa & Jan explores this experience. Vanessa, played by Laura Spencer (The Lizzie Bennet Diaries), is desperate to find a new love interest, and her best friend Jan, played by Caitlin Gerard (The Social Network), comes along to speed dating for company and to talk her up to eligible bachelors. Jan ends up unintentionally stealing the attention of the men in attendance - a situation that tests their friendship. This six-part series, written and directed by Jon Avnet (Black Swan and Fried Green Tomatoes) brings back two popular characters from a previous WIGS series, Jan, a fan favorite with more than 2 million views, as well as the speed dating format that was used in Christine. Vanessa and Jan also provides a showcase for Walton Goggins, Jimmy Wolk and Langston Fishbourne, who star as the potential dates.
"It was fun to reunite the characters Vanessa and Jan from our first series (Jan) and a delight to watch them explore their complex relationships while navigating a new adventure. Rodrigo and I are interesting in bringing characters from our prior series into new environments and new relationships and will be doing so," said Avnet.
Vanessa & Jan is one of many series available on WIGS featuring complex, compelling characters played by female actors. Upcoming series include Georgia (September 17) a comedy featuring Mary Elizabeth Ellis about a yoga psychotherapist trying to bring serenity into her clients’ lives and her own; and Ruth & Erica (September 24), a series about a woman struggling with her mother’s reluctance to make the life changes necessary in light of her increasing frailty, starring Maura Tierney, Lois Smith and Michael C. Hall.
