AURORA, Colo.--()--The Utility Analytics Institute announced winners of the 2012 Analytics Innovation awards recognizing the industry's most outstanding utility companies in analytics. Taking top honors are Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Florida Power and Light (FPL) and Oklahoma Gas and Electric (OG&E).

A judging panel of Institute analysts reviewed numerous entries across the three categories of customer analytics, grid analytics and analytics business infrastructure. Within each of those categories, projects were judged based on business impact, use of process and technology, and innovation. Winning projects were selected as follows:
SMUD: Integrating distribution automation and asset management. Accomplishments include grid optimization and conservation voltage reduction by reducing substation voltages, and analyzing smart meter voltage data to identify voltage system issues to relay to asset management.
FPL: Successfully applying behavior model scoring to decrease costs and improve customer experience. Accomplishments include notably improving revenue recovery through extensive modeling of customer payment history, behavior and usage patterns.
OG&E: Deploying a three-tiered analytics infrastructure. Accomplishments include taking steps to accommodate for future data growth and providing a “single version of the truth” for data and analytical capabilities across the company.
