High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), a successor to H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, is a new video compression standard developed jointly by ISO/IEC Moving Pictures Experts Group and ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group. HEVC promises dramatic improvement in compression ratio and picture quality as compared to the H.264 standard.
