ASHBURN, Va.--()--Telos Corporation Chairman and CEO John B. Wood was named a finalist for the GovCon Exec of the Year Award for companies with revenues between $75 million and $300 million in an awards program sponsored by the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce, Professional Services Council and Washington Technology.
Wood and the other finalists were recognized for their contributions to their respective companies, to the government contracting industry as a whole, and to their communities.
Wood left a Wall Street career in 1992 to investigate a company in which he had invested heavily. He eventually became Chairman and CEO and presided over a dramatic turnaround resulting in the cybersecurity leader that Telos Corporation is today.
Among the contributions to the federal government and contracting community for which Wood is recognized is the annual Security Solutions conference. Each year since 2004, cybersecurity experts from DoD, intelligence and civilian agencies have come together with industry sponsors for a frank interchange of ideas and problem solving. A member of the Northern Virginia Technology Council board of directors and board liaison to the NVTC’s Cybersecurity and Privacy Committee, Wood offers leadership and direction to the local technology industry. And he is an outspoken proponent of cybersecurity legislation whose advice and feedback have been welcomed by legislators from both sides of the aisle.
A champion of the concept of civic entrepreneurship, Wood is founder of the Loudoun CEO cabinet, committed to improving quality of life for all of the area’s citizens. He is deeply engaged in a variety of philanthropic efforts, serving on the boards of Project Rebirth and Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). Through substantial contributions to Wolf Trap Foundation’s STEM Learning through the Arts, Wood has brought the foundation’s coveted Teacher Artist Residencies to Loudoun County.
The GovCon Award winners will be announced live at the 10th Anniversary Awards Gala November 1, 2012 at Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC.
