Pinger Launches Free Texting and Calling Service in Canada

Pinger is a free phone app that turns iPads and iPods into mobile phones and adds a free phone line to iPhones. Pinger users can text and call for free to any phone in the U.S. and Canada, including smartphones, landlines and basic mobile phones.

Users get a local Canadian phone number from which they can send unlimited free texts to any phone in Canada, the U.S. and more than 35 countries. Users can also call any phone in Canada and the U.S. for free. Pinger works over 3G or WiFi. The app can be downloaded free from the iTunes App Store. http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/id444741112. An Android version of Pinger will be available in Canada later this month.
