North Texas High Schools Receive $110,000 from Usage of Texas Trust Debit Cards

MANSFIELD, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--High schools within four North Texas school districts were the beneficiaries of nearly $110,000 from Texas Trust Credit Union's Spirit Debit Reward card. More than 725,000 debit card purchases were made with Spirit Debit Reward cards between August 2011 and July 2012. Texas Trust paid participating schools 15 cents each time a card was used.

Participation was so strong that the Spirit Debit Reward program exceeded its reward goal by $35,000, or nearly 50 percent. Each school received a reward check monthly for the preceding month's purchases, so they had the money to spend throughout the year, rather than having to wait for a single payout. The program boasts more than 4,188 Spirit Debit cardholders, consisting of parents, students, teachers, and faculty of the participating schools.

Grand Prairie ISD, with four high schools, received $41,540. Mansfield ISD, with five high schools, received $31,073. Cedar Hill ISD received $27,000, generated from cardholders representing the district's only high school. Athens High School in Henderson County, smallest of the school districts, earned $10,252 for the year.

Any Texas Trust member can become a Spirit Debit cardholder by signing up and selecting a school of their choice to receive the cash reward based on the individual cardholder's purchases. Cardholders receive a student-designed Spirit Debit Card representing that school. Each time the card is used to purchase goods or services, the designated school will receive 15 cents.

Texas Trust has extended the Spirit Debit Reward program for another school year. The Reward program is open to high schools or school administrations within Dallas, Tarrant, Henderson and parts of Ellis and Johnson counties.
