SAN DIEGO, Calif.--()--PacketVideo (PV) announced today that its Twonky Server software has been selected by Hitron Technologies for use in their DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Gateway. Adding the TwonkyServer will enable Service Provider subscribers to seamlessly discover, access, manage and stream digital videos, music and photo content around the home, on Smartphones/tablets and even in the cloud.
“Hitron’s Gateway with embedded TwonkyServer enables service providers to bridge traditional and non-traditional content sources across devices on the home network.”
Twonky’s device profile database will enable Hitron’s DOCSIS 3.0 cable gateway to not only interface seamlessly with DLNA devices, but a whole list of quasi-DLNA or even non DLNA devices, such as the Apple TV and Game Consoles, etc. For Service Providers, this becomes extremely important to ensure compatibility of devices outside their domain which are currently in the market or may be introduced in the future. Ultimately this will enhance a subscriber’s experience, improving satisfaction and minimising service calls.
Hitron’s DOCSIS gateway provides cloud connectivity through the Twonky multimedia portal, enabling subscribers to wirelessly beam content, whether it is personal, over-the-top, or service provider featured, from their favorite device with an internet browser, to any connected renderer in the home like SmartTVs, STBs, Apple TVs, Game Consoles and more. Twonky also offers customisable mobile apps/SDKs that will work seamlessly with the Hitron DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway, enabling subscribers to Beam or stream content to their renderer of choice.
“We recognised that in today’s connected home environment multimedia exists everywhere, on PCs, smartphones, tablets, NAS, STB/DVRs, in the Cloud and on social media networks. The challenge is to make the experience easy and enjoyable for subscribers to access and share this content across their equipment, whether provided by the Service Provider, Wireless Carrier or purchased by the subscriber. . We are happy to present TwonkyServer as a value-add for the Service Providers to address these challenges and enhance their subscriber’s experience.” Said Hitron CTO Europe Rudy Zijlstra
“As consumers adopt a more digital lifestyle, partnerships like this with Hitron become increasingly important. Consumers today are looking for a seamless media solution that makes it easy for them to enjoy Service Provider content, along with their own music, videos and photos.” – Frank LaBarbera, VP Market Development, PacketVideo. “Hitron’s Gateway with embedded TwonkyServer enables service providers to bridge traditional and non-traditional content sources across devices on the home network.
