GREENBELT, Md.--()--ASRC Federal has named retired Air Force Col. Stephen D. Butler director of Space Programs. Butler is charged with building ASRC Federal’s defense space programs in the Colorado Springs, Colo., area.

Steve’s ability to anticipate future needs and cultivate strong partnerships will be instrumental in expanding ASRC Federal’s space programs support.”
Before joining ASRC Federal, Butler served as chief of the Space Situational Awareness and Command and Control Division, Directorate of Requirements at Headquarters Air Force Space Command. He was responsible for the requirements, strategies, architectures, policies and budgets for over $5.2 billion in space programs. In previous assignments, he served as the vice commander at the 45th Space Wing, Patrick Air Force Base, Fla., and commanded the 21st Operations Support Squadron at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. His operational experience from the unit to Headquarters U.S. Air Force is extensive and includes satellite operations, space control, missile warning, launch, cyberspace and special programs. Throughout his career, Butler has overseen space missions critical to national security and defense.
Butler was commissioned from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1985. He holds a master’s degree in space systems management from Webster University. He also earned master’s degrees in military operational art and science at the Air Command and Staff College and in strategic studies from the Air War College.
