BOSTON--()--John B. Koss, an attorney in the Litigation Section of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky and Popeo, P.C., has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC).
Founded in 1973, the BARCC is the oldest and largest rape crisis center in Massachusetts and the only center in the Greater Boston area. The organization is a national leader in providing comprehensive, free services including a 24-hour hotline, 24-hour medical advocacy, individual and group counseling, and legal advocacy. The BARCC assists thousands of sexual violence survivors and their families, friends, and communities each year.
Mr. Koss is a Practice Coordinator for and a founding member of Mintz Levin’s Electronic Discovery Practice Group and is a member of the Product Liability and Complex Tort Litigation Practice Group. He serves as national e-discovery and trial strategy counsel for clients involved in serial litigation. In this role, he advises on information governance and e-discovery readiness and works with clients to design and execute company-wide and multi-national discovery plans. Working primarily with the firm’s biotechnology and cable clients, Mr. Koss assists trial teams throughout all phases of litigation with the coordination of national litigation strategy and the resolution of matters through mediation, arbitration, or trial. Mr. Koss has extensive pro bono experience advising victims of domestic violence and organizations that serve these victims in privacy and information governance. Mr. Koss is also a member of Mintz Levin’s Hiring and Diversity Committees.
In 2011, Mr. Koss was named a “Rising Star” by Massachusetts Super Lawyers and in 2012 was named an “Up and Coming Lawyer” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly and the Massachusetts Bar Association. He was named one of the Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40 – Class of 2012 by the National LGBT Bar Association.
Outside of the office, Mr. Koss is a part-time faculty member at Boston University School of Law, where he teaches in the Legal Writing Program. In 2011, he was appointed to the Massachusetts Bar Association task force to address law school graduates’ difficulty finding jobs in the struggling economy. Mr. Koss is also on the Board of Directors at Fenway Health.
Mr. Koss received his B.A. from Northwestern University, his M.S. in Journalism from Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University, and his J.D., cum laude, from Boston University School of Law.
