Matt was recognized on Saturday during Law Day, an annual alumni and faculty awards ceremony hosted by the MU School of Law.
Matt returned to Stueve Siegel Hanson in January 2012 after a stint as the Chief of Staff for Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster. Matt previously worked with the firm from 2006 to 2009. Matt works in the firm's public client, commercial litigation and securities practices.
In his capacity as Chief of Staff, Matt served on the Executive Team that managed every significant piece of litigation in the Missouri Attorney General's Office, which ranged from criminal matters to important civil matters worth hundreds of millions of dollars to the state of Missouri. Matt also engaged with other state attorneys general in multi-state investigations, and coordinated efforts with other state and federal authorities including the Department of Justice and the SEC.
Matt oversaw the implementation of several policy initiatives within the office, and he managed investigations into a wide variety of conduct, including labor violations, securities fraud, anti-trust violations, and consumer protection violations. Matt litigated constitutional questions impacting the state, including cases concerning the powers and duties of the Missouri Attorney General; tried cases to juries; and argued before the Missouri Supreme Court.
During his earlier tenure at Stueve Siegel Hanson, Matt litigated in several practice areas, including business disputes, securities litigation, wage and hour enforcement, and consumer protection cases. He was appointed to the lead counsel team in several securities cases concerning auction rate securities, and he served in a leadership capacity on a variety of other class and MDL cases.
Prior to his initial tenure with Stueve Siegel Hanson, Matt clerked for The Honorable Nanette K. Laughrey, United States District Judge for the Western District of Missouri. He also previously worked at a large law firm in Kansas City. Prior to entering law school, Matt served as the Campaign Coordinator for Congressman Ike Skelton.
Matt has been named as a Rising Star by Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyers and an Up and Coming Lawyer by Missouri Lawyers Weekly.
