The Alliance Fall Forum experts will unveil findings from Alliance Research, including in-depth discussions of The Alliance’s 5th Annual SFO Study and 9th Annual MFO Study. Complete research results will not be released until the week of this event.
Wealthy Families Continue to Face Challenges
“A significant majority (73.6%) of single-family offices say they are concerned about their own sustainability,” said Bob Casey, head of research for The Family Wealth Alliance, citing the 5th Annual SFO Study. “That finding, coupled with the uncertain economic environment, and the Dodd-Frank requirement that many family offices register as investment advisors, has pressed them to consider aligning with their peers, outsource important wealth management services, or engage a commercial multifamily office. For many of America’s wealthiest families, these factors combine for a game-changing environment.”
Key findings of The Alliance 5th Annual SFO Study:
- Single-family offices that needed advice on Dodd-Frank requirements paid an average $64,000
- 35.3% of SFOs use an external chief investment officer (CIO)
- Only 38.2% have a formal succession plan in place
- SFO security issues: a sharp rise in reported or successful security breaches (an astounding 70.5%), and doubled use of outside security experts, to one in eight
