The Oregonian’s first Top Workplaces list for the best places to work in Oregon and Southwest Washington was published in a special section on Sept. 16. Companies were chosen through online nominations, which were followed by comprehensive employee surveys. The top 60 scoring nominees made the Top Workplaces list.

The Oregonian partnered with research firm Workplace Dynamics to measure the organizational health of Portland area companies. In its sixth year, the Top Workplaces survey has partnered with the top 30 most prestigious publications in the country and surveyed over one million employees in 4,000 organizations. Data from Workplace Dynamics has shown that companies that are organizationally healthy are more successful than their competitors. On average, exceptionally healthy organizations have outperformed the S&P 500 index by 16 percent a year since it started in October 2008.
