RALEIGH, N.C.--()--State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) is proud to announce its 3rd Annual SECU Supports the Troops Campaign, which begins Monday, September 17th. In an effort to provide 5,000 holiday gift boxes for North Carolina soldiers deployed throughout the world, the Credit Union will be collecting items through October 31st in all 244 SECU branches statewide. The “wish list,” available in SECU branches and on the SECU website www.ncsecu.org, includes items such as travel sized toiletries and snacks. SECU will also accept monetary donations to assist with shipping costs for the December delivery of the gift boxes to our troops.
In each of the previous two campaigns, Credit Union members, staff, volunteers and community groups rallied together in support of the holiday project, collecting enough donations to provide and ship 5,000 boxes overseas. Thank you cards from local school children provided a special touch, and will once again be included in 2012 packages. In past years, North Carolina soldiers deployed around the world responded with heartfelt thanks to all who had a hand in providing their holiday gifts, compelling SECU to extend this wonderful campaign for another season.
SECU Supports the Troops is just one of the Credit Union’s many efforts to support North Carolina soldiers. SECU’s field of membership includes the NC National Guard and Reserves and Credit Union personnel are routinely on-hand for the Guard’s Yellow Ribbon and Welcome Home events. The SECU Foundation, funded solely by SECU members, supports Guard initiatives as well, including Operation Kids on Guard and educational scholarships.
In addition to supporting its National Guard members, SECU also supports its own employees who serve in the Guard and Reserves. Numerous active duty NC National Guard personnel work full-time at SECU, with the Credit Union providing differential pay and ongoing benefits support. In 2011, State Employees’ Credit Union received the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the U.S. Department of Defense’s highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of their employees serving in the Guard and Reserves. SECU stood out as one of 15 winners from a field of 4,049 entries nationwide, submitted by Guard and Reserve service members or their families.
SECU Senior Vice President of Education Services, Leigh Brady comments, “SECU is proud to spearhead such a worthwhile effort to support our troops who so valiantly serve our Country in foreign lands and ensure our freedom. We look forward to partnering with all of our supporters for yet another successful campaign to bring a ‘touch of home’ to our North Carolina soldiers deployed overseas!”
