MANKATO, Minn.--()--MTU Onsite Energy, a Tognum Group subsidiary, has received a Bronze Award in the eighth annual Product of the Year competition for its diesel-powered generator set based on the MTU 8V Series 1600 engine. Sponsored by Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine, the award recognizes the best products introduced in 2011, according to votes cast by professional engineers in 10 categories.
The award-winning generator set brings enhanced levels of fuel efficiency, durability and flexibility to the important 400 kW power node. For maximum flexibility in a variety of applications, the unit is standby-rated to a 24-hour average load factor of 85 percent with a varying load — as compared with the typical 70 percent 24-hour average load factor. This makes the MTU Onsite Energy 8V Series 1600 generator set ideal for demanding applications such as mission-critical standby.
MTU Onsite Energy also received Product of the Year Awards in 2008 for its 3,250 kW Series 4000 generator set and in 2010 for its 12V, 10V and 6-cylinder inline configurations of the Series 1600 generator set. The Product of the Year Awards were established to present Consulting-Specifying Engineer readers with the top new products in the major mechanical/engineering/plumbing engineering system disciplines the professional trade magazine regularly covers: HVAC, building automation and controls, plumbing, fire protection, communications, electrical, power generation, test instruments, software and lighting.
