MANCHESTER, N.H.--()--Radio Disney and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire announced today that for second consecutive year, the two organizations will team up to promote the importance of childhood health and wellness through the Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge. The challenge is open to kindergarten through sixth grade students across New Hampshire. In 2011, more than 3800 students in 40 schools participated in the program.
“We’re glad to be able to support this wonderful effort along with Radio Disney which shows young people that fitness can not only be a key part of your daily activity, it can also be fun.”
“The program is designed to motivate kids and families to achieve fitness together by engaging in fun and healthy activities,” said Richard P. Lafleur, M.D., F.A.C.P., medical director, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New Hampshire. “Participants in the challenge should ‘get active and get fit’ for at least 20 minutes every day—or as often as possible. In order to successfully complete the challenge, students must be active for a minimum of 40 of the 55 days in the challenge, which runs from Oct. 1, 2012 through Nov. 24, 2012.”
Registration for the 2012 program is currently open and ends September 28. All schools that send in their results at the end of the Challenge will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win one of five gym equipment packages worth $500. Schools with the highest participation will be awarded Radio Disney dance parties.
Last year, schools in Derry, Manchester, Newfields, Warren, and Mont Vernon were the state winners and received a Radio Disney dance parties and gym equipment.
“Part of our daily mission is to encourage and support healthy behaviors for the communities we serve,” Dr. Lafleur added. “We’re glad to be able to support this wonderful effort along with Radio Disney which shows young people that fitness can not only be a key part of your daily activity, it can also be fun.”
