AUSTIN, Texas--()--Acumera – the leader in Trusted Connection Services for convenience stores – today announced the promotion of Thomas Yemington to vice president of sales and marketing.
“From product development and management to branding and customer relationships, Tom has strong grounding in the skills essential to managing Acumera’s current growth and building the team that will capitalize on additional marketplace opportunities”
In this newly created position, Yemington is responsible for direct and channel sales, marketing and promotional activities, as well as creation and development of new products and services.
“From product development and management to branding and customer relationships, Tom has strong grounding in the skills essential to managing Acumera’s current growth and building the team that will capitalize on additional marketplace opportunities,” said Dirk Heinen, chief executive officer. “Most importantly, he has a service heart and is focused on helping customers solve problems.”
While the recent focus of technology in convenience stores was on building traditional networks for fast and accurate processing of transactional data, today’s convenience store leaders also want actionable information from a broad range of equipment to facilitate faster, better business decisions. Also at an unprecedented level of importance to executives is implementation of strong, consistent security practices for consumer and business information.
Accordingly, Yemington’s first points of focus are on:
- Extending Acumera’s leadership position in managed services for the c-store Internet of Things
- Support of convenience store executives and their information technology teams in bringing key devices within their retail operations into a single, integrated platform that is compliant with stringent security standards
According to Yemington, convenience store management and ownership are embracing the notion of integrating their equipment directly with business intelligence systems, placing them at the leading edge of the Internet of Things. It began with connecting automatic tank gauges, growing to typically include more than a dozen devices that gather and send useful marketing, operations and maintenance information to headquarters and third-parties.
“Acumera’s PCI-compliant Trusted Connection Services go beyond point-to-point managed network services by making the Internet of Things pay off for our customers: getting things connected, keeping them connected, and providing information from those things for customer business intelligence systems, while meeting or exceeding best practices in information security,” said Yemington. “In short, Acumera integrates and manages the c-store’s Internet of Things to securely and dependably deliver actionable information to management.”
Yemington started his career with Intel Corporation, where he worked for 15 years in a series of sales and marketing capacities. There, he supported the developing business of a variety of Intel’s OEM customers, including Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Lenovo, Motorola, Panasonic, Samsung and Sony. Notably, he lead the team that brought to market a ground-breaking 3G machine-to-machine application on the DoCoMo network in Japan in 2005. His portfolio of experience also includes work for several startup companies in the cellular, information management and semiconductor industries.
A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Yemington earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He subsequently earned a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas McCombs School of Business. His work has been recognized by a number of organizations, including Red Herring, CTIA-The Wireless Association and the University of Texas McCombs School of Business.
