The Oregonian’s first Top Workplaces list acknowledges the best places to work in Oregon and Southwest Washington, and was published in a special section on Sept. 16. The Oregonian partnered with research firm Workplace Dynamics to facilitate the selection process. Companies were chosen from employee nominations, which were followed by comprehensive surveys. Those nominees scoring highest made the Top Workplaces list.

In the Seattle area, the Puget Sound Business Journal’s Washington’s Best Workplaces contest was established in 2007. It identifies and honors companies that create a positive, high-performing culture and shares best practices with other organizations. Survey firm Quantum Workplace followed up on employee nominations and conducted online employee surveys. The 85 highest-scoring companies, including Umpqua Bank, were named finalists.
