SEOUL, South Korea--()--When the fifth annual “Analog Semiconductor Leaders’ Forum” takes place at the Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX) on October 10th, industry authorities will discuss the latest analog technology and marketing trends under the central theme, “Exploring new opportunities for analog technology in the smart convergence era.”
“Addressing Analog, Mixed-Signal and Advanced Node Custom Design Scalability, Convergence and Throughput”
Hosted by Dongbu HiTek for the fifth consecutive year, this year’s Forum will once again be held during the i-SEDEX (www.sedex.org) trade show, which opens its three day run on Wednesday, October 9th. The Thursday Forum will commence at 10:00 AM with welcoming remarks from Chang-Sik Choi, Dongbu HiTek CEO. The Forum’s keynote speech, which will immediately follow, will be given by Timothy V. Kalthoff, Fellow and Chief Technologist of Texas Instruments’ High Performance Analog Division. Mr. Kalthoff will address:
“Remote Data Acquisition System & Technology Requirements”
As
sensors become more economical and data connectivity more pervasive,
there is an increasing drive toward remote data acquisition and
processing of real world analog signals. Deployment of such systems
demands efficient energy management without yielding performance.
Meeting design challenges with advanced mixed-signal technology
solutions will be discussed.
The morning schedule will also cover analog market trends in a presentation by Stephan Ohr, Research Director for Semiconductors, Gartner Inc. Mr. Ohr’s presentation will address:
“Analog in the Twilight: The Role of Analog in an Expanding Digital
Universe”
Demand will grow for analog products that serve new
opportunities such as digital power management ICs for cloud computers,
custom PMICs for smartphones, lighting drivers, and battery charge
controllers for power tools and electric vehicles. New-generation of
BCDMOS, BiCMOS and high-voltage processes that incorporate power
transistors, for example, will be needed to specify faster switching
speeds lower on-resistance.
During the afternoon schedule, experts from industry and academia will discuss the latest analog design and processing technology trends. This year’s topics and speakers are as follows:
“Addressing Analog, Mixed-Signal and Advanced Node Custom Design
Scalability, Convergence and Throughput”
Tom
Beckley, SVP of R&D for Custom IC, Cadence
Market
trends, influenced significantly by mobile communications, are
increasing the need for rapid-turn analog and mixed-signal functionality
that is both feature-rich and low power. Challenges to enhance
analog/digital co-design and verification, noise analysis, IP
integration and chip finishing will be reviewed as well as the new
design tools to meet them.
“High Speed Current Driving for AMOLED and Multi-Output PMIC”
Gyu-Hyeong
Cho, Professor of Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology
Two
ways to design multiple-output step-up switching converters will be
reviewed. One approach directly generates multiple outputs by
integrating two separately controlled converters in a single chip. The
other uses a single inductor to reduce the cost/area of the power IC.
Single-inductor multiple-output converter designs for AMOLED mobile
display applications will be discussed.
“Powering the Future”
Albert Lu, Sr.
Director of ZTE Micro
This presentation will mainly focus on
power related IC design opportunities in the coming age of Big Data.
Examples include power management for cellular terminals and set top
boxes, advancements in high power density power module design and
digitally assisted PFC designs. Wireless charging and other energy
harvesting technologies will also be briefly discussed.
The final technology presentation will be given by Heung-Soo Park, SVP of Dongbu HiTek who oversees Dongbu HiTek’s Process Development Center. He will review specialized analog-intensive processing developments and what further advances can be expected in 2013 and beyond.
Those wishing to attend are urged to pre-register immediately online at Advance Registration (http://www.sedex.org/2012eng/dongbu/seminar.php). While there is no charge to attend the Forum, seating is limited.
