NEW ORLEANS--()--More than 70 UnitedHealthcare employees today are volunteering for Kingsley House during the opening day of AARP’s 2012 Life@50+ National Event & Expo in New Orleans.
“Kingsley House is grateful to AARP and UnitedHealthcare for this wonderful opportunity”
UnitedHealthcare volunteers will assist teachers in the Kingsley House’s preschool, helping children with reading and games. Other volunteers will support the Adult Day Healthcare and Senior Center, working with adults on activities like arts and crafts.
The volunteer event at Kingsley House is part of AARP’s New Orleans Reimagined, a program aimed at helping the city rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. Since the city was devastated seven years ago, forcing the cancellation of AARP’s 2005 national event, AARP members have pitched in to help the city recover. Now thousands are arriving from all over the country for this year’s expo. Kingsley House, a United Way community impact partner, has served the children and families of New Orleans for 116 years.
The event, one of 12 distinct volunteer activities being organized as part of New Orleans Reimagined, begins today, 8 a.m., at 1600 Constance St.
“Kingsley House is grateful to AARP and UnitedHealthcare for this wonderful opportunity,” said Keith Liederman, CEO of Kingsley House. “Our children, seniors and adults are looking forward to interacting with the UnitedHealthcare volunteers.”
AARP will acknowledge UnitedHealthcare’s volunteerism at the Volunteer Kick Off at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, featuring AARP’s Men’s Life Ambassador and NFL great Dan Marino, and AARP’s Community Ambassador and sportscaster James Brown.
“Kingsley House provides vital services to people of all ages in New Orleans, and UnitedHealthcare appreciates the opportunity to support its efforts in making a difference in people’s health and quality of life,” said Jack Larsen, CEO of UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement.
The volunteer event is the latest in UnitedHealthcare's "Do Good. Live Well." Initiative – a campaign to inspire service and encourage volunteerism in communities where UnitedHealthcare employees live and work.
