LAS VEGAS--()--Taqua LLC., a leading supplier of small cell and convergence switching solutions, and Public Wireless, a leading developer of outdoor small cell solutions, today in Las Vegas at the 20th Annual Competitive Carriers Association (CCA) convention, announced that the two companies have deployed an outdoor small cell solution at reduced capital expenditure and operational costs of more than 50% compared to the traditional 3G/4G wireless macro deployment alternatives.
“By partnering with Public Wireless, Taqua can now deliver a full, end-to-end indoor and outdoor small cell solutions that change the economics of upgrading to 3G or 4G networks”
By utilizing Taqua’s small cell core in conjunction with the turn-key small cell service solution from Public Wireless, the two companies have successfully deployed a cluster of outdoor small cells delivering the coverage and capacity of a traditional macrocell. The Public Wireless outdoor small cell and deployment services utilize locally available broadband IP connectivity to remotely connect to Taqua’s small cell core. A single Public Wireless small cell can cover up to three square miles and hundreds of registered users. Taqua’s small cell core acts as an IMS-overlay into the carriers existing macro network (2G or 3G), extending the small cell-served subscribers all the existing macro network features and functionality required.
While every small cell outdoor deployment will differ based on subscriber requirements and topology among other factors, small cells can reduce deployment costs by 50% to 75% compared to traditional 3G or 4G upgrades through additional macrocell deployment. In this first joint deployment, a cluster of three Public Wireless small cells were utilized to gain the necessary outdoor coverage eliminating the need for additional macros, and at the same time Taqua’s small cell core simultaneously supported indoor small cells (also known as femtocells) to deliver coverage and capacity within residential and business locations.
“By partnering with Public Wireless, Taqua can now deliver a full, end-to-end indoor and outdoor small cell solutions that change the economics of upgrading to 3G or 4G networks,” said Payam Maveddat, Taqua’s EVP of product management. “By utilizing small cell technology, for both indoor and outdoor applications, carriers can not only save in deployment costs but also increase coverage and capacity by taking the cell site exactly where it’s needed.”
”Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have a challenging task ahead of them with respect to enhancing their 3G/4G networks. They need to satisfy the service availability demands of their smartphone equipped customers while meeting coverage and capacity goals in their networks. We are offering the perfect mix of technology and services to not only equip the MNOs with the right small cells but also provide a full turn-key approach to help with their deployment and small cell management needs,” said Murat Erkam, VP of Product Management at Public Wireless.

About Taqua’s Small Cell Core
Taqua’s Small Cell Core extends macro network features and functions to small cell-served subscribers. It leverages incumbent core network elements enabling mobile operators to deploy new small cell offerings while preserving existing systems and practices. It also allows operators to deliver a consistent user experience and implement unified service plans across small cells and macro networks. The TCS6100 delivers voice, messaging, and data convergence while providing supplementary, regulatory, and emergency services.
Taqua’s small cell core network is comprised of Taqua’s TCS6100™ Convergence Server, T7100™ Multimedia Controller, and the T7000® Intelligent Switching System with mobile interface cards. The TCS6100 is a SIP-based mobile convergence application server that integrates with the existing mobile core elements, including the HLR, SMSC, and MSC; using standard ANSI-41 and WIN protocols within CDMA networks. The TCS6100 extends macro network features and functions to small cell-served subscribers. It delivers voice, messaging, and data convergence; provides supplementary services and regulatory services; and enables seamless macro/small cell handoffs. The T7100 provides the media gateway controller and MRF functionality, while the T7000 provides all the media gateway control functionality. Taqua’s small cell core is a 3GPP2 compliant SIP-based architecture supporting both CDMA and UMTS, which allows for easier core network integration while providing a carrier grade platform that is highly scalable and future proofed for 4G including VoLTE.

About Public Wireless
Headquartered in the heart of Silicon Valley California, Public Wireless has historically focused on creative and alternative siting methodologies to offer cutting-edge and advanced wireless solutions and services to its customers. This has led to Public Wireless becoming the first to commercially deploy outdoor IP small cells in North America as early as 2006. Continuing to position itself at the forefront of the evolution of field optimized small cell technologies, and leveraging its expertise in scalable deployment methodologies, Public Wireless is now leading the way offering designs of modular Intelligent Cell Platforms which are very small form factor and highly efficient 3G/4G standards compliant outdoor hardened IP RAN base stations. The platform designs can serve neutral host or service provider dedicated applications. The solutions include uniform “building blocks” optimized for expansion and scalable deployments. They allow the (neutral host or service provider) operators to lower their CAPEX and improve OPEX efficiencies. For more information, visit www.publicwireless.com.
