WALLINGFORD, Conn.--()--For a second consecutive year, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut’s commercial HMO plan has been recognized as one of the Top 50 ranking commercial heath plans in the nation, according to the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in its Private Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2012-13. In addition, this year, Anthem’s commercial HMO heath plan in Connecticut is the highest ranked HMO plan in the state.
“The rankings help guide some of our decision making so that we can continuously improve our health plans and the value we provide to our customers”
According to the NCQA’s findings, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut’s HMO plan ranked first among the 11 private insurers in the state and ranked 41st among 474 commercial HMO and PPO plans nationwide.
NCQA annually issues separate national rankings of private, Medicare and Medicaid health plans which submit data to be evaluated in the areas of consumer satisfaction, disease prevention and treatment. Anthem’s HMO plan received the highest possible scores in the areas of customer service and prevention and second highest score in the area of treatment. Across these measures and factoring in other components, the HMO plan scored 86.7 points out of a possible 100 points.
“The rankings help guide some of our decision making so that we can continuously improve our health plans and the value we provide to our customers,” said David R. Fusco, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut. “We are very pleased that we are recognized as the highest ranking commercial HMO plan in the state. It is testament to our programs, services and interventions that are helping members better manage their health and make more informed decisions about their care.”
To be eligible for rankings, health plans must authorize public release of their performance information and submit enough data for statistically valid analysis. NCQA’s Private Health Insurance Plan Rankings 2012-13 used NCQA’s established rankings methodology, which has been used and widely recognized since 2005.
“The rankings serve as a litmus test for customers to evaluate various health plans,” Fusco said, adding: “At Anthem, we are committed to making quality health care more accessible and affordable for our members – and a greater reality for our communities. Every day our Connecticut associates come to work with this in mind. Our strong performance demonstrates this and our members’ health depends on it.”
Anthem currently holds Excellent Accreditation with NCQA for its HMO point-of-service plan and has earned Quality Plus Distinction in Member Connections and Care Management and Health Improvement.
