“Erik is a great addition to our Forum Studio team. He brings tremendous, well-rounded design knowledge and capability that will be key to the firm’s success moving forward,” said CEO Bob Clark. “In Chicago, he will provide me with a partner on the ground who can react quickly to our clients’ needs and help us company-wide as we grow Forum Studio into a premier firm with global reach.”
The announcement of Andersen’s arrival comes as Forum continues its commitment to building “the firm of the future” – a vision articulated by Clark. Recently, Forum has made several announcements on the addition of principal team leaders as the firm aggressively pursues its ambitious growth plans.
“Erik comes to Forum Studio with a wealth of prominent academic, healthcare and corporate ability. His design expertise and thoughtful leadership has brought transformational rigor to each project he has undertaken. His joining Forum further reinforces our position as a strong, expertise-driven firm that sees limitless possibilities in realizing our clients’ most complex projects,” said Chris Cedergreen, president and senior principal at Forum Studio.
Andersen's role at Forum Studio will involve bringing together a strong team of partners to realize each client's unique vision. “The collaborative environment that Forum Studio has developed and nurtured is essential to achieving successful, real-world solutions,” said Andersen. “The future of architecture and design is about creating partnerships, bringing together expertise and leveraging talent and skill with a focus on creating the greatest value for our clients. I’m proud to be a part of a firm that embraces this vision.”
A founding member of HOK’s Chicago office, Andersen arrives at Forum Studio after serving as a vice president and design principal there, where he oversaw all phases of planning and design for a variety of project types.
Most recently, Andersen led the architectural design effort for the 1.4 million square foot Wishard Health Services – Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. The project tapped Andersen’s collaborative instincts as the design for an all-new healthcare campus involved the successful integration of ten contributing design firms.
His advocacy for sustainable design is evidenced by his design leadership on the recently completed 600,000-square-foot Wellmark Headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa. It is currently the largest LEED Platinum single-user, owner-occupied corporate office building in the world.
Locally Andersen has made his mark in the Chicagoland area. Upon his arrival in Chicago in 1991 he worked as a senior designer on Northwestern Memorial Hospital's Galter Feinberg Pavilions. His portfolio of local design work also includes the 27-story, 360,000-square-foot Residence Inn and SpringHill Suites Chicago Downtown/River North Hotel; the 187,000-square-foot Health Sciences Center at College of DuPage; and the 288,000-square-foot Avanté Center at William Rainey Harper College.
As Forum Studio’s newly named design principal, Andersen stated that his goals are to achieve exceptional design solutions through collaboration, to provide great service and value to each client and to champion good community and environmental stewardship.
Andersen is also a sought-after speaker who has addressed a variety of industry organizations with wide-ranging topics that cover complex environmental issues to the future of planning and design. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the U.S. Green Building Council, Chicago Chapter.
