“I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to raise awareness of our efforts to develop T-type calcium channel inhibitors for the treatment of chronic pain, chemotherapy-induced neuropathy, and tremor. We believe that we have the potential to transform treatment with orally bioavailable and non-addictive medications,” said Maricich.
Chronic pain affects over 76 million Americans with 60% reporting no relief of symptoms. Maricich notes that the Cav3.2 T-type calcium channel is a common pathway in the development of neuropathic pain from diabetes, shingles, fibromyalgia, cancer, HIV, trauma, phantom limb and chemotherapy. Because chronic pain is responsible for 20% of all outpatient visits and 12% of all prescriptions, with relatively few patients experiencing complete relief, drugs that are orally bioavailable and non-addictive with limited side-effects would provide for an enormous, unmet medical need.
Xdynia is a spin-out company of Tau Therapeutics LLC, a world leader in developing T-type calcium channel products for the treatment of cancer.
