SANTA FE, N.M.--()--If you’re an editor or edit as part of your job, join the American Copy Editors Society (ACES) in three locations this October for a day of “Editing Boot Camp.” Each workshop covers the basics of grammar and punctuation, clarity and accuracy, proofreading, headlines and style, taught by knowledgeable and experienced presenters.
Details on the three workshops follow. The organization will hold its 17th three-day national conference in St. Louis in April 2013.
Thursday, Oct. 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel at St. Louis-Westport. Four members of the ACES executive committee will be leading the event: Mark Allen, freelance editor; Gerri Berendzen of the Quincy Herald-Whig; Lisa McLendon of the University of Kansas; and Christine Steele of the Capital Group.
Thursday, Oct. 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the University of New Mexico Science and Technology Park. The three presenters will be Merrill Perlman, formerly of The New York Times and now an editing consultant; Teresa Schmedding, the president of ACES, and Maggie Walter of the University of Missouri.
Saturday, Oct. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at George Washington University. The presenters will be Andy Bechtel of the University of North Carolina and David Sullivan of The Philadelphia Inquirer, both members of the ACES executive committee; and Samantha Enslen of Dragonfly Editorial.
