HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.--()--ARCADIS (EURONEXT: ARCAD), the international design, consulting, engineering and management services company, received the 2012 Indiana Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) Award of Excellence for the Combat Support Vehicle Maintenance Facility (CSVMF) project at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam. The award was presented last night at the 2012 Merit Shop Awards Gala at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis.
“Receiving an award such as the Award of Excellence from ABC is a great honor”
ARCADIS served as the prime engineering firm and Custom Mechanical Systems Corp., of Bargersville, Ind., as the contractor on the $13M project to design and build the nearly 25,000 square foot vehicle maintenance facility. GMP International, a Honolulu-based engineering firm, assisted in designing the project.
“Receiving an award such as the Award of Excellence from ABC is a great honor,” said Jim Bell, market sector manager for the federal program at ARCADIS U.S. “Our design team took a complex challenge and applied innovative solutions accounting for high seismic activity, typhoon-strength winds, salty, humid air conditions typical of the region, and the environmentally sensitive island ecosystem.”
The LEED Silver facility houses administrative and training functions as well as the state-of-the-art vehicle maintenance and repair facility, and features smart metering to monitor and minimize utilities costs, allowing a water usage savings of more than 40 percent and electrical usage savings of 20 percent when compared to a standard facility. Bioswales were used to reduce stormwater discharge in the environmentally sensitive Guam ecosystem.
In addition to the Indiana ABC Award of Excellence, the CSVMF earned a Safety Through Awards and Recognition (STAR) Program Award for “Outstanding Safety Awareness,” the Navy’s highest award from the Public Works Department at Andersen AFB.
