PHOENIX--()--As the national spokesperson for both MultiTable.com, the height adjustable table and desk manufacturer, and the Know Your Stats About Prostate Cancer® Campaign, Mike Haynes is committed to sharing his personal experiences to help others achieve their best health possible.
“One important thing I do every day for my health is use my height adjustable desk”
As a Pro Football Hall of Famer and Super Bowl champion, Haynes has always been concerned with health and wellness. It was during a routine screening for the NFL that Haynes decided to have a prostate exam to help encourage others to be screened. A simple blood test indicated that Haynes’ PSA level was high, a possible sign of prostate cancer. Following a biopsy, Mike was diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer.
"My diagnosis dramatically changed my life," said Haynes. "Now that I'm healthy, my goal is to help others fight for their health too. I learned that early detection is important to saving lives and that more men would get prostate cancer than women would get breast cancer. Unfortunately, very few men know this. This led to my desire to join forces with like-minded organizations and companies like MultiTable.com whose products lower the risks associated with this human challenge and that want to make a positive difference."
Haynes has made it his mission to raise awareness for a wide variety of health issues, including prostate cancer. He started working for the American Urological Association (AUA), which helped him decide over treatment options when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Haynes has spoken at a number of events, including a session on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., and is a proponent of standing periodically throughout the day to decrease risks of cancer and heart disease.
"One important thing I do every day for my health is use my height adjustable desk," said Haynes. "Instead of sitting for hours on end, it allows me to raise my desk so I can periodically stand throughout the day. As a prostate cancer survivor, I know how critical it is to be active. Using my sit-stand ModTable, by MultiTable.com, has made a real difference in my overall health. It's a simple solution for the working professional that is expected to sit in an office."
According to a study published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention, men who work sitting at a desk are more likely to develop prostate cancer than men who are manual workers. A team of researchers from the University of Athens studied 320 prostate cancer patients and compared them with a similar group of men free from the disease. All the volunteers were questioned about the type of jobs they did, and the results revealed that men in sedentary office jobs were 30 percent more likely to have prostate cancer.
For the month of September, MultiTable.com is giving customers 10% off of purchases in an effort to encourage more people to take advantage of the health benefits of using height adjustable desks and spread awareness for prostate cancer.
