Aggreko Power Swings into Action at 2012 Ryder Cup

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aggreko, the global leader in temporary power and temperature control, announced today that it is providing large-scale power generation and climate control for the 2012 Ryder Cup, taking place September 25-30 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois.

Over the course of the last year, Aggreko designed a power and cooling solution that will allow golf fans from around the world to enjoy the international event in safety and comfort, without detracting from the beauty of the surroundings. The specialized equipment to be used at the event was built specifically for golf tournaments and large-scale spectator events such as the Ryder Cup. It includes quiet, uninterruptible TwinPack generators - which provide cleaner, quieter and more convenient temporary power than other commonly used generator sets - and custom-built tent air conditioners.

Aggreko’s design took account of the various sizes of temporary and permanent facilities, including the 38,400 square foot merchandise shop, the 40,000 square foot International Pavilion and a members’ tent that will accommodate 650 Medinah Country Club Members. Aggreko will also provide power and temperature control for four PGA partners’ tents, a media center, three bus terminals and the event’s opening and closing ceremonies. Powering an event of this magnitude requires tons of Aggreko equipment and manpower, including:

• 15 MW of power - enough to power over 700 homes
• 5,120 tons of water-chilling and air-conditioning equipment – enough to cool over 1,200 homes
• Approximately 48 miles of cable
• A crew of 20 Aggreko technicians for installation and operation

In the Local business, which accounts for about half of our revenues, we hire our equipment to customers, who then operate it for themselves, although we retain responsibility for servicing and maintaining it. In the International Power Projects business, which also accounts for about half of our revenues, we operate as a power producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the electricity we produce. We design and manufacture equipment specifically for these requirements in our factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.
