RxRights Demands Access to Safe & Affordable Medications, Wants Drug Importation Answers from Presidential Candidates

American senior citizens on fixed incomes, strapped for cash, often must choose between their medications and their mortgages

FORT MYERS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Clare Caldwell, Florida field organizer for affordable medication advocacy group RxRights, attended a Fort Myers, Fla., rally with Vice President Joe Biden this weekend to insist that the administration support drug importation as a choice Americans deserve to make to avoid outrageously priced pharmaceuticals in the U.S. She discussed Americans’ right to affordable medication in a FOX-4 segment that aired Saturday evening.

“On behalf of all senior citizens and other Americans who cannot afford their prescription medications, I ask the current administration, as well as GOP candidates Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, to support personal drug importation and Americans’ right to choose where they purchase their prescriptions.”

“My sister and mother are just two of more than 100,000 Floridians who have to make tough choices every day, such as whether to buy groceries, pay their mortgages or fill their prescriptions — all due to the exorbitant costs of prescription drugs in the U.S. The Affordable Care Act will not resolve the problem of unaffordable medicine, and the RxRights coalition urges the presidential candidates to support drug importation and support U.S. citizens’ right to choose where they purchase their medications.
