NEW YORK--()--In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Olga®, a full-figure intimate apparel brand owned by The Warnaco Group, Inc., is proud to announce its partnership with My Hope Chest, a Florida-based national non-profit organization that provides breast reconstruction for uninsured and under-insured breast cancer survivors. For the duration of October, Olga® will house an application on its Facebook page in which users can create unique panels to add to a Virtual Quilt, and for every panel created $1.00 will be donated to My Hope Chest.
“As an intimate apparel brand, it is natural for Olga® to support a cause that is so directly tied to helping women feel comfortable with their bodies.“”
Founded in 2003 by Alisa Savoretti, My Hope Chest is the only national breast reconstruction organization working to provide funding for breast reconstruction after mastectomy to breast cancer survivors who lack the insurance or financial means for the surgery. After surviving her own struggle with breast cancer and waiting three years for reconstruction due to lack of insurance, Savoretti understands how important the "final step of breast cancer treatment” is for many survivors in helping to restore self-esteem and fully heal the mind, body and spirit. For approximately every $10,000 My Hope Chest collects, they pay for the reconstruction surgery of a breast cancer survivor.
“Reconstructive surgery is an integral part of the overall healing process for many breast cancer patients but is an issue that is not widely addressed in the breast cancer awareness community. We are pleased to lend our support to an amazing organization to help shed light on this issue,” says Erin Lynn, Director of Marketing for Warnaco’s Olga® and Warner’s® intimate apparel brands. “As an intimate apparel brand, it is natural for Olga® to support a cause that is so directly tied to helping women feel comfortable with their bodies.“
“A huge population of underserved survivors is forced to live with scars and a constant reminder of the disease,” founder Alisa Savoretti said. “The need for breast reconstruction has flown under the radar despite the hundreds of breast cancer groups focused on prevention and finding a cure in America. Most people do not realize breast reconstruction surgery, unlike an augmentation, involves a series of 3 surgeries and takes approximately one year to complete. For those who desire, reconstruction truly restores, transforms and completes their cancer journey. I cannot be more thrilled that the Olga Virtual Quilt Campaign chose to bring much needed attention to this issue.”
By simply “liking” the official Olga® Facebook page, users will be prompted to create a personalized quilt panel, which can include special messages and dedications. The Virtual Quilt page will display all message panels and Facebook fans can easily share the page across social networks, allowing their friends to begin the process of customizing their own panel in three easy steps.
