CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.--()--On Saturday, September 29th, The Bright School celebrated the school’s Centennial Anniversary in a BIG way. As in 16,390 MoonPies BIG!
“While we’ve baked a single giant MoonPie before, we’ve never attempted a world record. It was a site to behold! Bright and MoonPie were launched just 5 years apart, so we’re honored to have helped another Chattanooga institution celebrate 100 years.”
Bright School and Chattanooga Bakery, maker of the world-famous MoonPie® snack, partnered together and broke a Guinness World Records® title for the “World’s Largest Cookie Mosaic.” The event took place in the Bright School gymnasium in front of hundreds of school staff, students, parents and volunteers. The record-breaking mosaic measured 1,358.51 sq. feet, more than triple the previous record held by Oreo® (mosaic = giant rectangular design made up of cookies that must all touch). Sara Wilcox, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator, was on site and pronounced the new record at 2 PM EDT. Once disassembled, the MoonPies were bagged and donated to The Chattanooga Food Bank and other local non-profits.
“We are so excited to have achieved what will be, for most of us, a once-in-a-lifetime feat,” said Kim Brown, Bright School’s Director of Advancement. “We wanted to do something memorable in honor of Bright School’s 100th birthday, and what better way to celebrate Bright School and Chattanooga than with 16,000 MoonPies? Besides, who doesn’t want to be able to claim that they were part of an official Guinness World Records achievement?”
Tory Johnston, V.P. of Marketing for Chattanooga Bakery, agrees, “While we’ve baked a single giant MoonPie before, we’ve never attempted a world record. It was a site to behold! Bright and MoonPie were launched just 5 years apart, so we’re honored to have helped another Chattanooga institution celebrate 100 years.”
The Guinness World Records book is one of the most widely read books ever published. More than one hundred million copies have been sold in almost forty languages. Guinness World Records says it hears from tens of thousands of people each year who want to set a record. They reject about eighty percent of the applications. It requires that a record be “provable, quantifiable and breakable.”
